USDA Experimental Station in Cheyenne, WY and a favorite of Mr. Howard who
was a superintendent of the station.
A great hardy cotoneaster. CREAMBUSH (Holodiscus discolor) Ht. 5-7ft., spd. 6-8ft. Full sun. Low water needs (xeric). Northwest native plant with creamy white flowers in panicles, blooming in midsummer. Erect to arching basal stems with reddish brown exfoliating bark. Hairy leaves are light green, broadly ovate and coarsely toothed. Flowers have a sweet aromatic cream-like scent. Reddish tan seed heads in fall. The wood had many uses for the native peoples of the Northwest, as well as the flowers, which were used medicinally. Drought resistant, but if given regular water may get larger that the listed size. teardrop-shaped edible fruit. Fall

dry conditions. CURRANT, JOSTABERRY (Ribes x ‘Jostaberry’) Full sun, a cross between the black currant and the gooseberry, made in Germany. The fruit is twice the size of the currant and intermediate in flavor between the two parents. A very vigorous, thornless plant that is resistant to white pine blister rust.
